About Safariland
Safariland began in 1964 when Neale Perkins created a custom holster in his garage in Sierra Madre, California, following a request from his father. According to the company, its name was inspired by the African safari trips Perkins and his father enjoyed, and the small holster operation expanded rapidly.
Safariland’s holster designs include several retention systems. The company describes ALS as a thumb-operated mechanism that locks into the firearm’s ejection port, while GLS uses a middle-finger release activated as the user establishes a shooting grip. Safariland also says Team Safariland, established in 1985, continues to field-test materials and products as part of its research and development process.
Alastor Armory’s current published Safariland assortment spans inside- and outside-the-waistband holsters and magazine-loading accessories. Represented holster families include Incog and Incog X, Solis, Species, GLS Pro-Fit, ALS, and 6390RDS models; exact firearm fit, handedness, retention system, and availability vary by product.
